God's Presence

What is the point of following any faith if the object of that faith - GOD - isn't available, isn't involved with our lives, or simply doesn't seem real?

God's Presence
People seek after God because they want to know what He's about and what difference He makes in our lives. We believe God has spoken to mankind, and He speaks to us still. He proved His love for us by taking our place upon the cross 2000 years ago, and He shows us new expressions of His grace every single day.

We listen for His voice as we delve into God's Word together, turn our prayers towards Heaven, build strong spiritual relationships, and stay sensitive to the Spirit's leading and empowerment.

At Horizon, we want our community to be a place where earth and heaven meet, where people connect with the presence of God.

Heart Transformation

God is at work in our lives today.

Heart Transformation
He has the power to shake mountains or rock the seas, but God's primary work is first in the hearts of men and women. That's where the greatest battles of this world are fought. Not in deserts or in fields or upon the open sea. In our hearts.

And so we welcome God's Holy Spirit to fill our hearts and to do that crucial surgery deep inside each one of us. We anticipate it. We expect it. We can rejoice in it. Not because it's always comfortable or easy. Most times it is not. But because we realize that heart transformation is what God does to shape us into a people after His own heart: folks who dare to walk intimately with the God Almighty and who are empowered to bless and love this broken world.

Healthy Relationships

God is essentially a relational God.

Healthy Relationships
God relishes relationship. He made us to exist in community, and He wants a relationship with those He has created. When we are willing to draw close to Him, He will draw close to us. Of course, sin often gets in the way, but God has a way of building bridges to bring people back together again.

So, a huge part of living as a follower of Christ is to be committed to healing, strengthening, and restoring relationships. God's desire is for there to be wholeness first between us and Him AND then between us and those around us: our friends, our spouse, our kids, coworkers, neighbors, and even those normally outside our world.

Serving the Community

It used to be that a church represented the heart of a community. It was not something separate and isolated from the daily lives of its people. People knew one another and loved each other, if imperfectly, yet in a context of close relationships. And they worked together on things that mattered to God and to one another.

Serving the Community
Jesus calls His followers to "love God and to love our neighbors." Sometimes we forget that our "neighbors" just might be those neighbors who live right next door to us or down the street.

Jesus came to serve and not to be served. He came to give His life for the sake of many. If Christ so lavishly gave away His life to others, then we can follow His example and serve, love, and bless our neighborhoods to the best of our abilities.

God's put it on our hearts to demonstrate love for those in our community in a tangible and often surprising way. Just like Jesus would have done...

Celebrating Cultures

Come as you are.

Celebrating Cultures
That's the starting point in any journey towards Christ. So, who then are we? Well, one vital aspect of who we are is the culture we grew up in. It doesn't define us completely, yet neither is it of no significance. One's cultural heritage weaves together how we view our world, what we consider good or bad, and what really matters in life.

When you can appreciate someone else's cultural experiences, you catch a glimpse of some of the forces that shaped him or her.

We enjoy celebrating, accepting, welcoming other cultures. Why? It's no less than Christ demonstrated himself as He graciously reached out to others different from him. It's an opportunity to be stretched and to grow personally. And it gives a snapshot of what Heaven will be like someday. Culture reveals at its very best the creativity, the joy, and the nobility of God as people of all cultures come together to worship the one true God.

God's Mission

Why on earth did Jesus come, only to die upon a cross?

God's Mission
Jesus was a teacher. But he was much more than that.
Jesus was a healer. But he did far more than that.

Jesus' mission was to seek after those far from God and to bring them back home.

He came to pay the price we couldn't pay. He came to willingly die in our place.
He came to finish the needed work so that he could offer us forgiveness, friendship, and a place with God

The Gospel is good news because it speaks of a God who loved us so much as to sacrifice Himself on a cross to give us the opportunity to be restored back to Him. Turn away from sin; trust in Him; follow His lead; and you will find the Life that God intended.

Jesus was a man on a mission. And our hearts echo that mission today...
