Breaking New Ground

Another September. Another new school year. Another season to grow in God's grace.

Looking over the ministries we have here, I felt like Horizon's web site needed a touch-up, if not a full makeover. There was some outdated info, some incomplete tools, and much room for improvement. Also, this blog was languishing...

So, today we have a new tool finally added to the site: a personality assessment, based lightheartedly on animal type. Walton has used this in classes to families and couples preparing for marriage. Over the years, it's been pretty accurate and helpful. Why do this? I've seen it become a valuable tool to understand why that other person you interact with just doesn't seem to see things the way you do. And likely, she can't figure out why you seem so out of touch too.

Sure, sometimes sin is the cause of the friction. But many times, it's just because God makes people different: different tendencies, motivations, and personal values. Understanding this - and eventually even appreciating this - helps move us towards God's goal of encouraging and loving one another from the heart.

I've also updated some info on the web, added a Google map to assist those trying to find our home, and tweaked a few aesthetics. And, yes, I am also adding to this blog. I'm thinking of adding to it weekly too. Since I journal almost every day in response to what God is showing me, I'll try to post at least one journal entry per week. You can help me, too. If I don't post for awhile, feel free to nudge me or email me and ask me about it.

One other thing: we are moving towards having a weekly Weekend Celebration service. That's been in our prayers that last few months as we've sought God's leading on this. Praise God that a sister churchplant has sensed God's nudging and offered to share some land and a building with us! If all goes well in the next few months, the foundations should be laid this year and construction started. Hopefully, by spring 2010 we'll be able to start a Weekend celebration service and new ministries to complement the Growth groups and worship meetings we have now.

I'll share the details of how God provided this place and opportunity next time.
Until, then may the new season bring you ample blessings!

His,
Walton
